Transportation and Development Institute

IThe Transportation and Development Institute (T&DI) began in 2008 to provide a forum in Pittsburgh for civil engineers and others to discuss matters relevant to our  area of expertise in the profession and participation in the public decision making process.

The looming infrastructure crisis has now arrived. T&DI meetings accomplish two purposes:

  • Share the most current information about technical developments to provide members with the skills necessary to meet the demands of the future.

  • Follow policy making activity at the state and federal levels, provide critical information to the policy makers and the public to which they report to assure that funding continues to occur for us to execute our responsibilities as stewards of the transportation backbone of our state and national economies.
The T&DI activity reference 2010 ASCE Report Card for Pennsylvania’s Infrastructure (www.pareportcard.org). The PA Sections of ASCE gave PA a grade of D for roads, and getting worse, a grade of C for bridges, a grade of B for freight rail, and a grade of D for navigable waterways.  The D grades in roads and navigable waterways are about to cripple our regional, state, and national economies.

We engage with other organizations in this effort.
