PLANNED ACTIVITIES INCLUDED

We will be touring many interesting, historically significant O & E Canal artifacts. Sights to be seen include Clinton Guard Lock , WPA project constructions, Canal Fulton’s boat ride (included on the tour) on the St. Helena III, Canal Fulton’s museum (including St. Helena II display), rebuilt Lock #4, Crystal Springs Park (Cutler’s Grove) and the Diversion Dam. Also included will be stops at John Glen’s Grove, Navarre’s “Fishing Hole Flood Gate”, Mathew’s House Museum canal exhibit with a mysterious canal artifact on the towpath nearby, “Big Sluice” in Craig Pittman Park, a new hike-bike bridge replacing the Great Tuscarawas Aqueduct, Bolivar’s new trail addition and the “Exploration Gateway” canal exhibit at Sippo Lake Park.

PROGRAM

Friday, May 13: Sign in opens at 6:00 PM in the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #190 Hall, 303 Weirich Blvd. NW, Massillon which is 5 blocks from our headquarters hotel (Pre Registration Required). Get together and preview slide show at 7:00 PM by Larry Turner, a local canal authority. Free to all. Light refreshments will be served. Tables will be available for display and sale items.

Saturday, May 14: Late sign in opens at 7:45 AM in the hotel lobby (Pre Registration Required). The (Lakefront Lines) bus tour of the canal departs at 8:00 AM with places north and south of Massillon visited including a boat ride on the St. Helena III. The luncheon buffet will be at the FOE Aerie #190 Hall.

Saturday Night: Banquet buffet at the FOE Aerie #190 Hall starting with a social hour at 6:00 PM. Dinner for the hungry hikers will be followed by a presentation by Meghan Reed of the Massillon Museum speaking on Stark County and Massillon history involving the Ohio Canal.

Sunday Morning, May 15: Hike with Terry Woods.

The bus tour is limited to 110 people MAX. The banquet is not limited. Both must be reserved by May 6th. No refunds after May 6th.
