    Project Manager – Greater Pittsburgh Area

    R.A. Smith National is a rapidly growing and well-respected company providing multi-disciplinary services to government and the land development industry.  Our comprehensive services include civil engineering, surveying, construction services, structural engineering, ecological services, landscape architecture, irrigation design, water resource engineering, geographic information systems (GIS), visualization and 3D laser scanning.  We work at sites nationwide out of our seven sites in four states:  WI, IL, CA, PA. 

    We currently have an opening for a Project Manager in our Oakmont office.  This position is part of the Engineering design team focused on land development services.   

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Develop new clients and projects
    • Cross sell company services when possible
    • Maintain a satisfied client base that results in return business activity
    • Prepare client proposals and contracts
    • Plan projects to meet goals, fees, schedule, budget and staffing needs
    • Coordinate work, contracts, schedules and budgets with sub-consultants
    • Coordinate and review the work of engineers, technicians and other departments within the company assigned to projects
    • Review schedules, deadlines and budgets to keep projects on track
    • Represent the company at meetings and conferences to resolve important issues and coordinate work
    • Utilize technical skills in balancing sites, designing utilities and addressing stormwater management challenges
    • Apply diversified knowledge and engineering principles and practices to a broad variety of assignments and related fields
    • Identify and provide professional development and technical training for staff
    • Perform complex assignments requiring development of new and/or improved techniques and procedures
    • Ensure project compliance with state and local codes, laws, ordinance and agency requirements


    • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university, or equivalent education and experience
    • Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration in Pennsylvania
    • Minimum of 6 years progressive experience as a designer in land development and civil engineering
    • Minimum of 6 years progressive experience in a business development role
    • Experience in site development, grading, drainage, storm water management design, and permitting
    • Experience in water distribution and sewer collection systems design, parking lots and roads, erosion and sediment control, from initial project planning through construction phase
    • Knowledge of hydrology and earthwork principles
    • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil3D and Microsoft Office products
    • Possess organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and handle multiple complex projects/tasks
    • Self-starter who can work independently and with a team with minimal supervision
    • Strong interpersonal & relationship building skills
    • Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms, and select the appropriate method for each situation
    • Ability to travel domestically to customer locations on a planned and unplanned basis.
